Elder Harris and I in front of a Boden sign! |
Hello again! Another great week in Sweden.
A little description of Boden...
Boden is a town in northern Sweden with a population of 18,000. Someone asked me if the streets are cobblestone: They aren't but one cool thing about the roads is that right hand turns are not allowed on a red light like in America. Boden has about 10ish members that come to church regularly. It apparently doesn't get as cold or windy as Luleå because it isn't as close to the sea, so that's nice!
Our District! |
Some common activities that I do everyday as a missionary...
-Tracting! We have been tracting in the little area a little ways away from Boden. Every single house looks like it came out of some design magazine. The houses are really nice and well cared for and the people are, too!
-Contacting! We go into Stan, the city center/shopping area, most every day and talk to people. I usually stop the people and say what I can in Swedish and then Elder Harris carries on the conversation.
-Visiting less active Members! We have been trying to focus on less active members this week. One person we stopped by was Linda who is from Brazil. She has two cute little kids and her husband is Swedish. He is't a member but we were able to share a message with the whole family!
Shopping trip number TWO! |
One fun part of the week was going to Luleå and eating dinner at a member's house! The member's name is Fern. She is from South Africa. The Luleå systers ate with us, too. Fern is the best member missionary! When she lived in South Africa, she would have refugees stay at her house and they would often become interested in the church. She still does work with the many immigrants here in Sweden who have come from Iraq and Afghanistan. It is always so good to be with a member of the church!
We always take pictures of the houses that say we can come back! |
Elder Harris and I went on a roadtrip this week! We agreed to help the Muhi family with some service, so Friday we drove out to their house. It is WAY out there. The drive was really cool because all of the Aspen trees are turning colors. There was nothing but trees and lakes for an hour on paved road and then nothing but trees and lakes for about half an hour on gravel road! We almost stopped driving because there weren't many houses anywhere in the forest, and it was raining. Then we turned off of the gravel road and onto a dirt road and found the house! A little cabin in the middle of Sweden with a strong LDS family living cozily inside! So beautiful! Elder Harris and I helped to move a wood pile to a stack near the house. It was great to have a chance to serve some people and to get to know the Muhi family better. They have one son named Stefan who is the only young man in the ward!
I rode a bike as a missionary for the first time this week! It was so cool! I am a real missionary now! Elder Harris and I biked from where we live to another part of Boden for tracting. We rode past so many trees and over a huge lake! One of the goals that we set this week was to contact some old investigators and some less active members every day. It is great to talk to people who already have a little background on the Gospel. One man we talked to was Peter. He is a member but hasn't been to church for a year. We read with him from 1 Nephi 8 about the Tree of Life. One of the parts that I like the best in the story is where it talks about Lehi sharing the fruit of the tree with his family. The Gospel is the best fruit! It fills our hungry souls and gives us peace and happiness. The best part is that anyone can have some if they want it! And when you have tasted the fruit, you can't help but want to share it!
I love you all!
