Boden Week 7 - October 16, 2017

Francis och Harris

Hello Everyone,

The first transfer is over! Our district had one change, Syster Nelson moved to Västra Frölunda and was replaced by Syster Kunzler! Syster Kunzler is companions with Syster Ohler who is also from Centerville and they were best friends in junior high! Now, everyone in our district is from basically Salt Lake except for Äldste Harris!

Tuesday was very rainy! Äldste Harris and I biked to the home of a nice old lady named Barbara and raked her leaves! Then her neighbor Harry came over and we had fika (Swedish tea time) together. It ended up that Harry invited us over to his house. He lives alone and he seemed quite pleased to have guests over. He showed us all of the cool paintings on his walls, a grandfather clock that has been in his family since 1780, a whole bookshelf he has with books about dogs, his stuffed eagle, and a family pedigree chart! When Äldste Harris and I saw the family history chart we just about exploded! We told Harry about how our church does lots of work for family history! He said to come by again sometime. Such a nice old man!

The eagle
Later, we went to the apartment of a Mongolian family. We brought with us a Book of Mormon in Mongolian so that they could read it but it turns out that there are two written Mongolian languages! We only have the one that they can't read. The family can't really speak Swedish or English either, but somehow we will be able to teach them!

Northern lights... Streak across the sky. This pic doesn't do it justice.
I SAW THE NORTHERN LIGHTS! Remember that lady who Elder Harris and I tracted into who had been a foreign exchange student in Las Vegas with a Mormon family? Well it turns out that she is super nice and she texted us that the northern lights were coming! So Elder Harris and I ran out in our pajamas and half zipped up coats and just stared at the sky. At first, there was kind of a pillar of light stretched out above us, kind of like someone was shining a super powerful flashlight. Then, it turned green and looked like it was flowing from one side of the night to the other. It lasted for about ten minutes and then vanished. It was quite spectacular!
Train tracks that we ran by one morning!
Two days later, we had dinner at that nice lady's house with her family! Her name is Maria and her husband's name is Henrik. They have 3 blonde boys who were really polite and well behaved and actually really good at English! Elder Harris and I had the great opportunity to teach them about the Restoration and gave them Mormons Bok. It felt so unreal! We were eating dinner at a nonmembers house who we had tracted into and who had a normal, traditional family that ate dinner together! At the end of the visit, Henrik and Maria said, ' We know you are a long ways away from your families so please call us if you need anything!' Wow!

A picture that the Vinberg's showed us. Brother Vinberg's parents were both miners in Sweden and one day in the mine someone saw this and it looks like Jesus Kristus!
On Thursday there was district meeting and then a meeting with the newly called branch mission leader Brother Vinberg and his wife! We had a great dinner with them and the Luleå systers and then a great meeting about the missionary work in Luleå/Boden! The Vinbergs are so excited to help us! They are an older couple who lives in Luleå. It is so great to know that we have people we can turn to for help!

And now for a paragraph about what I eat everyday! I have had a few people ask me about it... Honestly the food here is pretty similar I think to American food. And I am a missionary so I don't really cook super awesome foods! For breakfast I have cereal and toast. Sometimes I have the cool yogurt that you can drink! Elder Harris and I have also started buying this drink called Froosh which is 100% fruit. So I drink that sometimes, too! For lunch, we microwave frozen pizzas, make sandwiches, or make eggs. And for dinner, we have either noodles, rice, or noodles with meatballs, or rice with meatballs, or noodles with interesting sauces we find in the fridge, or rice with korv (Swedish for 'hot dog'), or rice with chicken!  I feel pretty healthy all in all! We could probably be better at  eating more fruits and vegetables.

Our reorganized whiteboard! With "Sunshine" from the family hanging above.
The weather has been all over this week! Rainy some days, cloudy most days, getting colder and darker. It sounds really depressing! But I am very happy. President Youngberg strongly suggests that we take Vitamin D each day, and I do that. I also have a sunlamp that I turn on while studying. And also the GOSPEL!

Just a few more things to tell... 1. A man let us in while we were tracting and we taught him! 2. Elder Ballard had a Europe Area Broadcast last night! So great! He said that we need to believe that we can have miracles. He said, 'miracles come when we are earnestly seeking to discern the will of the father.' Elder Clayton of the Seventy also spoke with his wife about making the Sabbath a delight! One thing that I loved from their talk was that they would roleplay scripture stories with their kids on Sundays! For some reason that sounded really fun to me!

Have a great week everyone!

Äldste Francis
