Jakobsberg Week 13 - May 14, 2018

Hello!

Transfers this week! I am now companions with Elder Gordon. He is from Seattle, Washington and has been here one transfer longer than me. We have had a blast the past few days! On the first day we were together, we went over to one of our neighbor's houses and mowed their lawn. We have become really good friends with them, the husband is from Greece and his wife is from Finland. It was fun to mow a lawn again!

The highlight of this week was definitely Sunday. There was a baptism in our ward for an investigator named Christine. She is from the Phillipines and the sisters have been teaching her for a few months. She asked me to baptize her. The Spirit was strong at the service, it is unforgettable to see someone covenant to follow the commandments of God and to take upon them the name of Jesus Christ!

I didn't sing at the service, but a young woman in the ward did. It was really beautiful. The church here is bigger than in Luleå, and the baptismal font is at one end of the building with windows behind it. There are 4 elders in the district, us and the APs, and then 4 sisters. The sisters who teach the family are in our ward, they are the Sister Training Leaders in the zone. Christine's parents and 2 cousins were there.

After the baptism was the bi-annual Skype call home!!! Happy Mother's Day!! The call went way too fast but it was so good to see the family and to hear everyone's fun stories. It was so wonderful to talk to you all, and see that everyone is safe and happy. I hope that all goes well with all of the end of school activities and tests!

Elder Gordon and I visited the Vasa museum today. It was awesome! The Vasa is a ship that Sweden built in the 1600s. It sunk just a few miles out of the harbor on its first voyage. 333 years later, it was brought back to the surface and a museum was built around it. Elder Renlund actually talked about the Vasa in an article he wrote, the article can be found here.

While we were at the museum, we heard, "Hey, Elders!" and started talking to two guys from Provo, Utah! They are here together on a business trip. We had lunch with them and talked all about Utah and Sweden. It was so fun to hear American English! One of them is the 11 year old Scout leader in his ward and he said that he was shocked when he heard about the Church leaving Scouting. He seemed really supportive of Scouting.

I hope that you all have had a great week!
